Guidance for sending strains to CBS
Cultures should be offered on agar slants. CBS prefers to receive two subcultures of each strain, and all cultures preferably in one package.
Please send all your cultures by air-mail and ensure they are well
packed to avoid breakage of the tubes. Pathogenic material should be packed
according to the international prescriptions, for which we refer to the websites
of (1) IATA (for transport by air) www.iata.org/dangerousgoods, and (2) ADR, on
www.unece.org (for transport by road).
In addition to the IATA and ADR sites, we
would like to point to the document giving the most important general
information: “International Regulations for Packaging and Shipping of
Microorganisms", provided by European Biological Resource Centres Network
(EBRCN) website: Please label your parcel: "FUNGAL
CULTURE, NO COMMERCIAL VALUE". According to the type of organisms please send
your cultures to:
Fungi: Attention Dr G. Verkley / Mrs T. Merkx
Yeasts: Attention Dr V. Robert / Dr. M. Groenewald
Bacteria, phages and plasmids: Attention Mrs M. Figge
