Aspergillus and Penicillium species database

March 1st, 2011

This is an interactive key for the identification of Aspergillus and Penicillium species. The database was compiled by Prof. Simeon Vanev from 3 major sources but the taxonomy might not be up-to-date anymore (for more information, please contact Jos Houbraken or Rob Samson):

1. Pitt, J.I. 1979. The genus Penicillium and its teleomorphic states Eupenicillium and Talaromyces.London, New York, Academic Press.

2. Raper, K.B., Fennell, D.I. 1965. The genus Aspergillus. Baltimore, Williams & Wilkins.

3. Genbank at www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. The link between sequences and species names was performed automatically. This linking was not corrected/checked manually.

For further information about the species, one can click on the species hyperlinks to Mycobank to view the available pictures and some additional associated data. Another Penicillium database compiled by CBS researchers is also available for the species belonging to Penicillium subgen. Penicillium.
