Colony diameter on CYA after seven days incubation at 25°C 3-7 mm; conidia absent; exudate and soluble pigment absent; reverse pale, tan or olive. Colonies on MEA 3-8 mm in diameter; few greyish green to dull green conidia sometimes produced; exudate and soluble pigment absent, reverse cream to buff. Colonies on CY20S 6-10 mm in diameter; conidia grey green to dull green (25-27E3-4); exudate and soluble pigment absent; reverse grey green to dull yellowish green. Colonies on CZ 1-5 mm in diameter; conidia absent; exudate and soluble pigment absent; reverse uncolored. No growth at 37°C.
Measurements made on CY20S. Stipes 150-250 um long, smooth-walled, hyaline. Vesicles 10-20 um wide, subglobose to spathulate, hyaline. Aspergilli uniseriate. Conidia 2.5-4.0 um long, globose to barrel-shaped, walls rough to spiny.
This slow-growing, xerophilic species is probably underreported in fungal surveys unless a low water potential/activity medium such as DG18 (Hocking and Pitt, 1980) is used. In older colonies, small, colorless, soft-walled sclerotoid bodies are sometimes produced.
