Colony diameter at seven days on CYA incubated at 25°C 28-50 mm; conidia greyish turquoise (24D-F4-7); exudate and soluble pigment absent; reverse pale yellow to slightly brown. Colonies on MEA 39-70 mm in diameter; conidia greyish turquoise; exudate and soluble pigment absent; reverse uncolored to cream. Colonies on CY20S 9-40 mm in diameter; conidia blue green; other characters as on MEA. Colonies on CZ 18-34 mm in diameter; conidia dull green to greyish turquoise; exudate and soluble pigment absent, reverse uncolored to slightly pink. Colony diameter on CYA at 37°C 68-70 mm.
Stipes 225-350 um long, smooth-walled, hyaline. Vesicles 15-25 um wide, hyaline to slightly green in color, pyriform, spathulate or subclavate in shape. Aspergilli uniseriate. Conidia 2.4-3.0 um long, spherical to broadly ellipsoidal, surface finely roughened to rough.
Typical field isolates of this species are blue-green in color and fast growing. Among the aspergilli, this species is frequently reported as a human pathogen. Clinical isolates often sporulate poorly, sometimes not at all giving the colonies a whitish appearance overall (Leslie et al., 1988). Color mutants also appear occasionally.
